Shift by Jeri Smith-Ready

Shift is the second book in the Shade series. I read this book a while ago and it was pretty good. I read this before the first book so I was a little confused, but I think that you don't really have to read the first book because you'll get the hang of the story fairly quick.

Aura's boyfriend Logan died before the second book began, but Aura misses him terribly. Logan failed to pass on, and he nearly turns into a Shade. He comes back to Aura after a few months, and suddenly, he turns back into a human again for a couple of minutes. They almost lose their virginity, but Logan turns back into a ghost.

Then, there's Zachary. Aura is definitely attracted to Zachary, but since Logan has not passed and doesn't seem want to, Aura cannot be with Zachary. Logan pretty much guilts Aura every time she and Zachary hang out, so it's a complicated relationship. There's also another problem: Logan wants to come back with a BANG. He wants to perform in front of a lot of people, which makes Aura and Zachary the focus of the DMP.

Shift is a book about life. It's about dealing with losing someone you really love. Someone who shouldn't have died. Aura has to deal with letting a person she love go, letting him find peace. Logan has to deal with accepting his fate and leaving the world he knows.

The first book in the series is Shade and the 3rd & final book is Shine.
