Beauty Awakened by Gena Showalter

image

This is the second book in Gena Showalter's Angels of the Dark series. This Koldo's book.
Koldo is the scarred yet powerful "Sent One" (kinda like an Angel) in Zacharel's army. He was the one who gave Zacharel the water of life.

I forgot that Koldo lost his wings when he was younger, and we finally get a chance to learn how he lost his wings and why. He had a very tough childhood because of his parents, and it really broke my heart when I learned about his relationship with his parents. He just wanted his parents to be proud of him and acknowledge him, but he doesn't get it. He strives to be different from his father, and we see him struggle within himself as his story goes on. He cannot fly, but he can flash/teleport which is a rare ability. We also get to see him interact with the other soldiers in Zacharel's army which is awesome. Axel was awesome!

Then we meet Nicola: Nicola has a twin sister named Laila who is in the hospital when you first read the book. We learn that Laila has a demon inside of her, and demons cannot be inside of you unless you welcome them. There are also two demons around Nicola which isn't good. I liked Nicola, but there were also times when I wanted to hit her because she was forcing her sister to do something she obviously doesn't want to, but that's pretty much the only thing I didn't like about her.
The story was overall great, but the whole "Sent One" vs. Angels was kind of confusing because I thought they were all angels. I was also confused with what Thane's POV in some chapters had to do with anything. He always sounded crazy and angry at the world and it was different from Koldo's POV. I do recommend this book especially if you are reading this series and if you are a huge Gena Showalter fan. I definitely am and this is definitely her work. She just has a specific way of writing that lets me know that it's her work. Anyways, read the book! You'll definitely love Koldo.

Wicked Nights by Gena Showalter

The angel Zacharel finally gets his own novel in the start of Gena’s new series Angels of Dark.
At first I thought this book wouldn’t be as good as Gena’s series Lords of the Underworld, but it was actually a great read!
Zacharel is an angel who has not felt any emotions ever since his twin brother, who was the complete opposite of him, was attacked and Zacharel was later forced to kill him. He has been constantly punished for harming humans on his quest to avenge his brother, but now he cannot afford to fail. He’s forced to be the leader of angels like him, angels who are on the verge of getting kicked out of heaven and losing their wings. If he gets kicked out, he will become vulnerable to the demons, and that is not what he wants.
Zacharel then meets Annabelle Miller, the woman who will change his life forever. She was marked by a demon and now every demon seems to be after her. The demon that marked her killed her parents, but she was the only one found at the scene of the crime and no one believed her when she told them the real story. She got sent to a mental institution where she was abused by her doctor and other patients. Zacharel did not want to take Annabelle with him, but he later changes his mind.
Overall, this book was well written and it was also very entertaining. One can relate to the characters and they are very likeable. I’m not surprised at how good this book was because it was written by Gena Showalter. You won’t regret picking up this book off the shelf!
