Book of the Day

Synopsis:

Following the unexpected death of her father, 18-year-old Layken is forced to be the rock for both her mother and younger brother. Outwardly, she appears resilient and tenacious, but inwardly, she's losing hope.

Enter Will Cooper: The attractive, 21-year-old new neighbor with an intriguing passion for slam poetry and a unique sense of humor. Within days of their introduction, Will and Layken form an intense emotional connection, leaving Layken with a renewed sense of hope.

Not long after an intense, heart-stopping first date, they are slammed to the core when a shocking revelation forces their new relationship to a sudden halt. Daily interactions become impossibly painful as they struggle to find a balance between the feelings that pull them together, and the secret that keeps them apart

[Great book, see my review about it :) ]

Slammed by Colleen Hoover

I just got slammed.

I got slammed by a book, a girl, a boy, a friend, a mom, and poetry

I never knew what Slammed was or who the Avett Brothers were until I read a book

I got slammed by a book,

A book that I was hesitant to read and have been eyeing for months.

I got slammed by a girl

A girl who faced many hardships in life yet she never gave up.

A girl who just wanted to be with her family and be happy.

A girl who touched our hearts by just being herself.

I got slammed by a boy,

A boy who was never predictable.

A boy who loved his brother more than anything in the world.

A boy who showed us that we could be whoever we wanted to be and do whatever we set our mind to.

I got slammed by a friend,

A friend who managed to live within the state's system and live to tell the tale.

A friend who wasn't afraid to approach new people and make new friends.

A friend who always has your back and who will always tell you when you are being stupid.

I got slammed by a mom,

A mom who lived through hardships while taking care of her kids.

A mom who laughed even when things weren't going right.

A mom who will always be there.

I got slammed by poetry.

I learned that poetry didn't need pretty words or rhymes,

That poetry didn't need to be organized and short,

That poetry could touch your heart no matter what,

And that poetry shouldn't be scored, people should just listen to the words.

JUST READ THE BOOK! (This review would make more sense). Anyways, great book overall. It was very creative and original and once you finish reading the book, you'll finally know what slammed means and who the Avett Brothers are. I finished the book in around 2 hours, so it wasn't such a long or hard read. I really liked it and it'll be going to my stack of awesome books.
