Immortal City by Scott Speer

image
Just finished reading the book yesterday and it was a good start to a new series, the Immortal City series.  In Scott Speer’s debut series, angels have pretty much taken over the world, especially Los Angeles, the city of Angels. Jackson Godspeed is the young prodigy, the youngest, hottest angel to become a Guardian Angel. The paparazzi are always around him and he has his own publicist. His dream has been to finally become a Guardian Angel and to possess a Guardian Angel ring… but then he meets Madison Montgomery, the one girl who never pays any attention to the angels and who makes Jackson earn her trust.
Jackson is instantly captivated by her. However, Maddy believes that angels should be able to save whoever they want and not only save those that can afford to have their Protection. Angels are now being paid to protect a person, and literally the first chapter in the book makes you mad at these angels.
Overall, I thought the book was a good introduction for Speer’s new series, but it did lack something. I thought the interaction between Jackson and Maddy were sometimes awkward or rushed, but in the end, things are cleared up but more mysteries pop up! If the next novel in the series (which doesn’t release til next year) is better than this book, then watch out because this might become a hit series.
