Immortal City by Scott Speer

image
Just finished reading the book yesterday and it was a good start to a new series, the Immortal City series.  In Scott Speer’s debut series, angels have pretty much taken over the world, especially Los Angeles, the city of Angels. Jackson Godspeed is the young prodigy, the youngest, hottest angel to become a Guardian Angel. The paparazzi are always around him and he has his own publicist. His dream has been to finally become a Guardian Angel and to possess a Guardian Angel ring… but then he meets Madison Montgomery, the one girl who never pays any attention to the angels and who makes Jackson earn her trust.
Jackson is instantly captivated by her. However, Maddy believes that angels should be able to save whoever they want and not only save those that can afford to have their Protection. Angels are now being paid to protect a person, and literally the first chapter in the book makes you mad at these angels.
Overall, I thought the book was a good introduction for Speer’s new series, but it did lack something. I thought the interaction between Jackson and Maddy were sometimes awkward or rushed, but in the end, things are cleared up but more mysteries pop up! If the next novel in the series (which doesn’t release til next year) is better than this book, then watch out because this might become a hit series.

Mystery Man

Just finished reading this book this afternoon and I’m surprised to admit that it was actually a great read from start to finish. I mean, there were some parts in the book where I was just like “wth, come on already, or again?!?”. However, the story was great, the characters definitely had chemistry, and there was definitely an alpha thing going on.
I recommend this book to fans of Romance or whoever wants to start a new series. This is the first book of the Dream Man series by Kristen Ashley
Description:
While drinking cosmopolitans, Gwendolyn Kidd meets the man of her dreams. Then she takes him home. Then she wakes up alone. But her fear that she lost her dream man turns into a relationship with a mystery man when, night after night in the dead of night, he comes back for more. Hoping it will blossom into something real, she lets him.

But she doesn’t even know his name.

Gwen’s struggling with the decision to end their crazy non-relationship when her sister-from-hell, Ginger’s best friend pays a visit and warns Gwen that if she and her sister don’t get smart, they’ll both get d-e-a-d, dead. Gwen has no clue what’s going on but she’s used to Ginger’s antics and decides to lay the problem on her sister’s biker boyfriend’s doorstep. Bad choice. She hits the Denver Underground radar with a big, loud ping.

This means Gwen’s Mystery Man, Cabe “Hawk” Delgado has to step in to keep her safe. But when Hawk gets a dose of Gwen in the daylight, he makes the decision that he finally wants real with Gwen. However when Gwen gets a dose of badass, bossy, straight-talker Hawk in the daylight, she decides she’s done.

Thus begins the head-to-head of the Commando vs. Cosmo Girl as Hawk woos Gwen in his own unique way, Gwen survives firebombs, drive-bys, kidnappings, hot pursuits by biker hotties and gorgeous police detectives and discovers the heartbreaking reason why Hawk kept her at arm’s length.

And as all this happens, Gwen finds that her sister’s troubles are serious trouble and she must decide who to keep alive: her sister-from-hell or the man of her dreams.

Something Like Normal by Trish Doller

Just finished reading this book and all I can say is… it’s amazing. Great book! The novel is about a 19-year-old boy named Travis who just came home from Afghanistan. His friend Charlie had recently been killed when they were both ambushed and he has not recovered from his friend’s death. He suffers PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and he has nightmares and constantly sees past events when they were in Afghanistan. He has a 30-day leave and he feels as if he is being forced to stay with his family. His father has hated him since he quit football during high school because his father was a former SuperBowl champ. His brother, Ryan, has taken his girlfriend and his car. His mom is pretty much the only one who cares about him. Then he sees Harper again… the girl who’s reputation was ruined by rumors. Harper helps Travis overcome his nightmares and finally come to terms with his friend’s death.
This story definitely taught me more about PTSD and how our soldiers might suffer from PTSD and not know it because they might have different symptoms. When they were in Afghanistan, Travis’ mother always sent them care packages and Travis still remembers many good memories with his friends there even if their living conditions were horrible. I definitely recommend this book to everyone, especially those fans of Romance and YA novels.

Animal Magnetism series by Jill Shalvis

This series is awesome. If you love animals and romance, then I’d definitely recommend this series. It’s based on three brothers who have been moved from one foster home to another all their lives. Dell and Adam Connelly are brothers but they also consider Brady Miller as their own brother because they eventually met one another at the last foster home that changed their lives forever (in a good way). Their foster father died, and while Adam went on to join the National Guard, Dell became the town Sunshine’s veterinarian. Brady is a pilot-for-hire and he was only supposed to make a quick visit since his brothers asked him to, but he didn’t expect to meet Lilah Young….
Book 1: Animal Magnetism
Description:
Co-owner of the town’s only kennel, Lilah Young has lived in Sunshine, Idaho, all her life. Pilot-for-hire Brady Miller is just passing through. But he soon has Lilah abandoning her instincts and giving in to a primal desire.

It’s Brady’s nature to resist being tied down, but there’s something about Lilah and her menagerie that keeps him coming back for more.
image
Book 2: Animal Attraction
Description:
Jade Bennett couldn’t be happier to escape her past for the quiet ranching town of Sunshine, Idaho. Plus, there’s nothing like working for veterinarian Dell Connelly. And though Dell has no intention of settling down, Jade’s strength and sass are enticements no red-blooded male can resist.
image
Book 3: Rescue My Heart (Release Date: November 6, 2012)
Description:
After a tragic stint in the National Guards, Adam Connelly returns to Idaho and to Belle Haven, the animal shelter he owns with his brothers. All Adam wants is to be alone. Then he opens the door to the past—the woman whose heart he once broke. Still gorgeous, still tough-as-nails, but this time, unusually vulnerable.

Holly learned the hard way to never depend on a man for anything. Now, of all men, it’s the last one she wants to see, and the only one she needs. Her father has gone missing in the Bitterroot Mountains and she could use someone with tracking skills to help find him.

For Holly and Adam, each with their ghosts, a trek this desperate, this unpredictable, and this intimate, will have its share of risks—including opening their hearts one more time.

Once Burned by Jeaniene Frost

image
This is a new series by Jeaniene Frost, the Night Prince series. It is centered on Vlad Tepesh a.k.a. Dracula and Leila. It is kind of a spin off of her popularNight Huntress series. The series is interesting and there’s also humor in it. Jeaniene Frost successfully starts a new interesting series that will grab many readers’ attentions.
Description:
She’s a mortal with dark powers…

After a tragic accident scarred her body and destroyed her dreams, Leila never imagined that the worst was still to come: terrifying powers that let her channel electricity and learn a person’s darkest secrets through a single touch. Leila is doomed to a life of solitude…until creatures of the night kidnap her, forcing her to reach out with a telepathic distress call to the world’s most infamous vampire…

He’s the Prince of Night…

Vlad Tepesh inspired the greatest vampire legend of all—but whatever you do, don’t call him Dracula. Vlad’s ability to control fire makes him one of the most feared vampires in existence, but his enemies have found a new weapon against him—a beautiful mortal with powers to match his own. When Vlad and Leila meet, however, passion ignites between them, threatening to consume them both. It will take everything that they are to stop an enemy intent on bringing them down in flames.

Psy-Changeling series by Nalini Singh

Great series, great author, great story, and great characters! Nalini Singh introduces us to Psy, perfect humans who don’t feel any emotion, and to Changelings, shifters who live beyond the Psy and human world.
At first I didn’t read the series because of the book covers, but then I was like eh what the heck I’ll just read it. I was not disappointed! If you want to start a new series, read this series.

The 12th book in the series is probably releasing soon… but so far no news yet as to when her book is releasing and who the next hero will be. Can’t wait!

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

image
This is a pretty sad book. I saw this book a couple years ago and decided to give it a try because the story sounded pretty interesting..
Hannah Baker is the girl in the picture. She recorded 13 different cassette tapes for Clay Jensen explaining the 13 different reasons why she decided to commit suicide.
Clay Jensen is a classmate of Hannah and has had a crush on her for a while now. He arrives home and finds a box with his name on it. Clay finds out that it’s Hannah talking in the tapes and that she’s telling him why she committed suicide.
This book made me sad but also made me understand how much people’s actions can affect others. While you read the book, you find out more about Clay and what he knows about Hannah. Hannah and Clay could’ve been together but what happened that one night changed their lives forever ….

John Green

One of the most well-known YA authors today. He pretty much wins awards every time he releases a new novel! My favorite John Green books are Paper Towns and Looking For Alaska. I haven’t read The Fault in Our Stars or Will Grayson, Will Grayson yet, but I have heard that they are amazing books… so I better start reading them soon. If you haven’t read any of his books or if you don’t know who John Green is, then you’re definitely missing out! He’s an amazing author and his works are very inspirational and thousands of people read his books everyday and many of them rate his books 4 out of 5.
Here are John Green’s most popular works :

Nicholas Sparks

One of the best Romance authors of all time in my opinion. His stories are original, captivating, and one can relate to them. They’re also very romantic…
Nicholas Sparks’ book The Choice was the first book I’ve read outside of school, and it pretty much introduced me to amazing books. I’ve been reading regularly ever since!
Oh yeah many of his books have been made into movies!
Anyways, I love all of his books and here are most of his books:

If you are a fan of Romance books, I definitely recommend these books!

Perfect Chemistry series by Simone Elkeles

This is a YA Romance series that should be towards older YA. The series is about the Fuentes brothers, and each brother has their own book. Each brother has their own demons to face, but in the end, family comes first. The brothers’ father died because he was in a gang. Having no father to run the house, Alex first joins the gang his father was in so that he can help the family. They want to know what really happened to their father and this is a main part of the series.
Alex Fuentes is the oldest of the three brothers and he’s in high school. He acts as the father figure of the family and he joined the gang to provide for his family. Then comes Brittany Ellis, the girl who will change his life forever ….
image
Carlos Fuentes is the middle brother. He moved with his mother and younger brother to Mexico when Alex decided to quit the gang. He returns to America and he is angry at his brother Alex for leaving them and making them move to Mexico. Alex then arranges for Carlos to live with Kiara Westford’s family…
image
Luis Fuentes is the youngest of the three. I didn’t think he’d get his own book right away because in Perfect Chemistry he was still just a young boy and in Rules of Attraction he was barely mentioned. However, now Luis is all grown up (well still a teenager anyways).. Alex is marrying Brittany while his brother Carlos has a girlfriend. Luis meets Nikki Cruz at Alex’s wedding and he definitely likes her. However, the gang wants Luis and Luis soon finds out there’s more to their past than he has ever known…

Black Dagger Brotherhood Series by J.R. Ward

This series is a more mature vampire series, definitely not for kids. Even though the series is a little darker and serious, it is still a very interesting and captivating series. The characters are amazing and there are many actions in the series. The first book in the series is Dark Lover, one of my favorites in the series. This is followed by Lover Eternal, Lover Awakened, Lover Revealed, Lover Unbound, Lover Enshrined, Lover Avenged, Lover Mine, Lover Unleashed, Lover Reborn, and Lover At Last
(Lover At Last is releasing on March 26, 2013 and it is Qhuinn and Blay’s story)
I recommend this series and I love Zsadist and Bella’s story!

Angel Betrayed by Cynthia Eden

This is the second book in the series The Fallen.
Sammael is a Fallen. He fell centuries ago after he slaughtered those that weren’t his to kill. He didn’t understand why he couldn’t kill those who were harming and killing others, and his brother Azrael didn’t understand him either. His brother believes that he has gone crazy and that he deserves to be punished. He was an angel of Death and he could kill with just one touch. When he fell, he became the most powerful Fallen on earth, and he was feared by humans and Others alike.
Seline is half demon and half angel. Her mother, once an punishment angel, fell for her demon father, but her father later killed her mother. She was sent to kill Sammael, but Sam proved to be stronger than any other she had ever encountered. Sam and Seline then agree to team up against evil, but are they powerful enough to stop a rogue angel from killing them both?
At first, I thought this book wouldn’t interest me, but after I started reading, I was instantly hooked! Sam and Seline are definitely right for one another and they are both interesting and funny. I like how Cynthia Eden gave a little twist at the end, and this book is definitely now one of my favorites.
If you are deciding to read this series, the first book is Angel of Darkness and the third book in the series will be Angel in Chains, Az’s story! I believe it will be released on November 27.

Fifty Shades series by E.L. James

When I first saw this series on the bestsellers section, I was shocked. I read the summaries and thought that the book would revolve sex and that’s it, but the book actually has a real and interesting story within it.
Christian Grey is this rich guy who had a horrible childhood. His birth mother is the reason why he does what he does (in bed). He became an orphan when his mother died, and luckily he was adopted by the Grey family. Christian later had an affair with Mrs. Grey’s friend who is mostly referred to as “Mrs. Robinson”. She used similar methods in bed that Christian later uses. Christian did not condem their relationship because in some ways, Mrs. Robinson helped him become successful and stopped him from destroying himself.
Anastasia Steele is a college student who decides to help her friend Kate out by interviewing Christian Greybecause Kate was sick. She never expected Christian Grey to be young and attractive, and she was surprised that Christian was attracted to her because she never thought herself to be that attractive and interesting. Then, Ana decides to accept the contract that Christian shows her, and this is where their story begins.
Fifty Shades of Grey: Ana is about to graduate college when she meets Christian Grey. She accepts the contract that will change her life forever. However, Ana wants a man who loves her and there is this one part in the book which I really love. Ana was given a blackberry and laptop by Christian and they both constantly email one another. One night, Ana emails Christian that he was never there and she doesn’t reply back to his emails and calls, and suddenly Christian comes to her and Kate’s place and stays the night just holding Ana.
Fifty Shades Darker: The book starts off where the first one left off. Ana left Christian and she has now started her job, which she made sure had nothing to do with Christian. However, (and this part I found pathetic) Ana can’t seem to function without Christian, she can’t sleep and she has lost weight. Christian volunteers to take Ana to her friend’s art show and then they’re back together. This book shows more about Christian and his past. He needs unconditional love, but he can’t seem to accept that Ana does love him and that he deserves to be loved.
Fifty Shades Freed: Ana and Christian adjust to married life, but they also get more surprises in this book. Someone is stalking Ana… and he wants revenge. Christian is trying to adjust to life not as Dom as before. Will Ana and Christian last? Ana has changed Christian.

Vampires in America Series by D.B. Reynolds

This series consists of 6 books so far, but my favorites are Raphael (1), Jabril (2), and Sophia (4). They’re my favorites because I love the story between Raphael and Cynthia. Raphael is this powerful vampire lord who has lived for thousands of years, while Cynthia is just this ordinary but beautiful human cop/private investigator. They first met when Raphael needed help locating his sister Alexandra who was kidnapped by fellow vampires. Raphael became captivated by Cynthia and they hit it off.
However, Raphael fears that his desire for Cynthia will never end and so he leaves her after she helps find Alexandra. Cynthia is heartbroken and so she tries to move on in book 2 (Jabril). It is also a good book because this shows how Cynthia and Raphael deal with their relationship and if they are going to continue it.
Book 4, Sophia, is one of the best books I’ve read so far. It shows how Raphael and Cynthia have changed since Jabril, and I would say more things but then I might ruin the story for you…
The verdict: Read this series! It’s not a very popular series, but it is a good series.

Wicked Nights by Gena Showalter

The angel Zacharel finally gets his own novel in the start of Gena’s new series Angels of Dark.
At first I thought this book wouldn’t be as good as Gena’s series Lords of the Underworld, but it was actually a great read!
Zacharel is an angel who has not felt any emotions ever since his twin brother, who was the complete opposite of him, was attacked and Zacharel was later forced to kill him. He has been constantly punished for harming humans on his quest to avenge his brother, but now he cannot afford to fail. He’s forced to be the leader of angels like him, angels who are on the verge of getting kicked out of heaven and losing their wings. If he gets kicked out, he will become vulnerable to the demons, and that is not what he wants.
Zacharel then meets Annabelle Miller, the woman who will change his life forever. She was marked by a demon and now every demon seems to be after her. The demon that marked her killed her parents, but she was the only one found at the scene of the crime and no one believed her when she told them the real story. She got sent to a mental institution where she was abused by her doctor and other patients. Zacharel did not want to take Annabelle with him, but he later changes his mind.
Overall, this book was well written and it was also very entertaining. One can relate to the characters and they are very likeable. I’m not surprised at how good this book was because it was written by Gena Showalter. You won’t regret picking up this book off the shelf!

Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

If you still haven’t read the series….
You better start now! You still have time to catch up, because the second film is not coming out til November! :)
It’s got action, romance, you name it. A YA book that even adults read…I mean even LeBron James read the series.

Thoughtless by S.C. Stephens

This book is supposedly really good…if you’re into the whole love triangle thing. It’s also considered as one of the best romance books/series (Thoughtless series). This is the first book of the series.
Description:
For almost two years now, Kiera’s boyfriend, Denny, has been everything she’s ever wanted: loving, tender and endlessly devoted to her. When they head off to a new city to start their lives together, Denny at his dream job and Kiera at a top-notch university, everything seems perfect. Then an unforeseen obligation forces the happy couple apart.

Feeling lonely, confused, and in need of comfort, Kiera turns to an unexpected source – a local rock star named Kellan Kyle. At first, he’s purely a friend that she can lean on, but as her loneliness grows, so does their relationship. And then one night everything changes…and none of them will ever be the same.

The second book in the series is Effortless and it’s out now. The third book is releasing sometime soon…

Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire

I’ve been seeing and hearing a lot of buzz from this book. It’s supposedly similar to the Fifty Shades of Grey series because it’s featuring a hot guy who has a troubled past. It’s also going to be a series and this is the first of the Beautiful series.
I’m going to read this soon!
Description:
The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate percentage of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance between her and the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby needs—and wants—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.

Love Unscripted by Tina Reber

Description:
Ryan Christensen just wanted to be an actor. Never in his wildest dreams did he ever think that accepting a role in an unknown film would toss his career into overdrive. His new fame has cost him dearly; anonymity is no longer an option. His fans stalk him, the paparazzi hound him, and Hollywood studios all want a piece of him. Despite all of that, Ryan Christensen craves the most basic of human needs - to have love in his heart and privacy in his life.

Taryn Mitchell, the story’s protagonist, is a realist. She’s been feigning contentment, running the family pub in Seaport, Rhode Island, while quietly nursing her own internal heartaches. Her feet are fairly glued to the ground and she doesn’t buy into all the hype that has descended on her tiny, coastal town. In her world, men are safe if they’re kept at a distance.

Fate has other plans for these two when their paths cross one sunny afternoon. A group of female fans has attacked him, leaving his shirt torn, his face cut, and Ryan in obvious distress. Bonds between them form from the most dramatic of circumstances while jealousy, insecurity, and the stress of his celebrity life try to tear them apart.

Through all the tabloid lies, secrecy, and pressure, can Taryn’s peace and Ryan’s high-profile insanity live together in harmony?

Great book and it’s kind of something new. A guy wants to become an actor, but the perks that come with being an actor…well, he’d just rather do without it. He wants to live a normal life, but he’s got some crazy fans…like Twilight crazy. Then, he falls for a bar owner, but can she handle all the rumors, fans, and movies that come with him? And can she handle threats to her life, stalking, and media attention around her now that she’s his girlfriend?
First book in the Love series by Tina Reber.
